Sea Kayak Guides and Instructors

(Lead and Assistant)

You are mostly responsible for preparing, guiding and following-up scheduled and custom sea kayak, canoe and voyageur canoe trips extending from a half-day to 14 days (most of our trips are two to five days). You are also actively involved with sea kayak/canoe instruction, school programs, vehicle shuttles, our rental/retail operation, guest meal preparation and cleanup and on-site work projects.

Mandatory job qualifications:

Current Advanced Wilderness First Aid Certification (Wilderness Medical Associates, Sirius).
Paddling Canada level I certification (or equivalent) or greater sea kayak paddling skills.
Current AECSKO or sea kayak guide certification or equivalent commercial guiding experience.
Note that these are often offered in our spring training program.

Desired qualifications:

Good tandem canoe flatwater and/or moving water skills.
Paddling Canada (or equivalent) sea kayak instructor skills.
Commercial sea kayak guiding experience—especially with adults.
Drivers license and good driving record (F Class and ability to drive standard transmission is an asset).
Environmental, heritage and ecological knowledge of Lake Superior Provincial Park and Pukaskwa National Park areas.
Outdoor leadership/skills background and certifications.
Flexible, personable, mature and creative personality with strong safety and customer service mentality.

Salary:

Minimum wage to $13/hour based on experience in the field and with Naturally Superior Adventures. Salary includes meals and tent site accommodations. While we pay for an 8-hour day, guiding by nature is a 24-hour responsibility.
