Whitewater canoeing in Ontario Canada
The most spectacular of Lake Superior’s rivers, the Agawa flows 30 kilometres through a dramatic canyon landscape. A perfect learning river for new whitewater canoeists, the Agawa features nearly continuous easy to intermediate whitewater. On this guided whitewater canoe trip, you’ll learn how to safely paddle a tandem canoe in moving water and enjoy some of the most scenic paddling in Ontario.

This trip is designed for canoeists with good flatwater skills who are looking to become competent moving water trippers. The trip begins on Saturday afternoon with a flatwater stroke review at our Lake Superior Paddling Centre. On Sunaday morning we access the Agawa River via the Algoma Central Railway, a historic line that once carried the Group of Seven and Bill Mason into the wilderness. At Canyon Station we disembark for two days of whitewater instruction and enjoyment.

En route you will have plenty of time to learn how to read whitewater rapids and practice manoeuvres like eddy turns, and ferries under the watchful eye of your experienced guide. All rapids have portages for those looking for a less exciting adventure.

*Please note these dates are different than published in our brochure since we are limited by the direction the Algoma Central Rail travels on weekends.

" The Gales of November was a wonderful photographic retreat. Naturally Superior, indeed! It seemed like a long journey to this awesome destination but I was definitely not disappointed in the splendour it offered. "
