Learn to sea kayak
Paddle Canada Level 2 sea kayak
Intermediate sea kayak skills course
This Paddle Canada sea kayak level 2 skills course is a comprehensive 4-day coverage of skills and theory essential for proficient kayaking in moderate conditions, on overnight trips along a moderately exposed shore with frequent easy landing opportunities.

Our on-water focus will be on developing strong technical paddling and rescue skills. Also preparing for and heading out on an overnight trip. Practical theory sessions cover weather, navigation, tides and currents appropriate for kayakers.

Typically we begin cover two days of on-water skills and practical theory before planning, packing and heading out on a camping overnight. During this time skills and theory can be put to practical use with loaded boats.

Paddle Canada level 2 and BCU 3 star Connection: Our intent is to run our Paddle Canada level 2 skills certification course over a 4 day concurrently with our BCU 3 star course. Participants who meet criteria will be able to achieve certifications in both programs (BCU cert fee is additional).

Is this Paddle Canada Level  2 sea kayak skills course right for you?

If you just graduated from level I this course is not for you (yet).  To get the most from the course you’ll want to have done at least three one-day long kayaking trips in different locations and conditions. You’ll be comfortable with your strokes, wet exits, group and solo rescue techniques. You’ve been out once in bumpy water and want to learn more. You want to take your skills set from good to strong intermediate. You may even have done or considered a wilderness first aid course.

To Paddle Canada Certify or to not Paddle Canada Certify? That is the Question!

Our objective is to provide you with skills required to safely and effectively plan and undertake overnight sea kayak trips in moderately exposed, open water conditions. Those wishing to attain certification will be assessed based on their planning, paddling and rescue skills in the context of an overnight sea kayak journey in appropriate conditions. While passing the course is not contingent on the ability to roll, participants should have solid bracing and self-rescue skills and some previous experience with Eskimo rolling.

If certification is not important to you, great. Rest assured, you’ll be getting top notch instruction from qualified instructors who love sharing their passion for paddling with you.
