Imagine 180 kilometres of sea kayaking and 14 days of wilderness camping—there’s little wonder why the Pukaskwa Ultimate trip is a perennial favourite among Naturally Superior Adventures’ guides.

This fully guided, partially outfitted sea kayaking trip on Lake Superior has it all—spectacular geology, awesome waterfalls, abandoned logging camps and isolated lighthouses. What’s more, it’s the lake’s longest stretch of undeveloped coastline. It all adds up to one of Canada’s finest sea kayak trips. If you have previous sea kayaking experience and are looking for a rejuvenating Lake Superior experience, this is the trip for you!

Your trip begins with a half-day group safety and paddling skills workshop at our Rock Island Lodge and Lake Superior Paddling Centre. We end the day with a fresh whitefish dinner.  After a vehicle shuttle to Pukaskwa National Park’s Hattie Cove headquarters, we begin our trip south and east back to our Rock Island base at the mouth of the Michipicoten River.

This trip is designed for intermediate paddlers. Previous sea kayaking experience is required. Your enjoyment will be enhanced if you are in good physical condition and comfortable with backcountry wilderness camping. Daily paddling distances range from ten to 26 kilometres (averaging 15 kilometres), with a full no-paddling day included to accommodate rough weather or a more relaxed or exploratory group pace. The group sets our pace, but we tend to spend most of the day on the water, leaving lots of time for “covering the distance” and exploring the coast.

You will be responsible for carrying a portion of the group gear in your kayak, as well as your tent, sleeping bag and personal gear.

You guide(s) have advanced wilderness first aid, sea kayak paddling and sea kayak guide course certifications. Safety is their primary concern. They know and love Lake Superior and want to share their knowledge with you. They are wonderful wilderness chefs and trip meals are healthy, fresh and delicious (no freeze dried stuff here!).
