Guided Sea Kayak Superior Escapes

Take the week off work and come sea kayak on Lake Superior.

Naturally Superior Adventures’ fully guided weekly escapes are designed for people with some previous paddling and camping experience who want to improve their skills and experience Superior’s wilderness with a small group and a knowledgeable guide who puts your safety first. Novice and new paddlers are welcome and may be asked to share a tandem sea kayak.

About our Weekly Escapes

Fully guided and outfitted including all meals at the lodge and on trip, camping, group camping gear, fully equipped and coast guard approved sea kayaks, Farmer John/Jill wetsuits and route maps.

Guide guest ratio is 1:6 and for intimacy, and minimal environmental impact, group sizes typically range from 2 – 7 guests. We practice low impact camping.

Lead guides are certified with Wilderness Advanced first aid (min 40 hrs) and are equipped with an expedition first aid kit, signal and communication systems. They have completed our own Great Lakes Sea Kayak Guide course, Paddle Canada skills and instructor certifications. Our Guides know the route and are versed in the local heritage and environment, species, biological systems and stories specific to each route.

Single sea kayaks are 16 – 18 foot singles or 21 – 13 ft doubles all with sealed hatches, most with rudder steering systems, mostly high quality plastic (although thermoform and glass may be available) They are fully outfitted with PFD, paddle, throw rope and bailers. We offer a discount to guests who bring their own properly sized and equipped sea kayak.

Group camping gear includes kitchen cooking and sanitation, water purification system (and back-up), group tarp(s), hand washing/shower station and open access ouch kit.

Don’t worry if you’re a first-time sea kayaker. Trips typically include singles and at least one double depending on the group composition, route and expected conditions. You may be asked to share a double on one of the day of your trip.
