Gordon Brown Instructional Trip

Course Description

This is a 4 day, 3 night paddling excursion hosted by Naturally Superior Adventures with guest paddlers Morag & Gordon Brown, Erik Ogaard and coach process workshop participants. Our route will be confirmed on pre-trip after a review of wind/weather conditions and group preferences. Options include:

  • Shuttle into Lake Superior Park to paddle the Gargantua area or from Old Woman Bay returning to our base in Michipicoten Harbour.
  • Paddle from our base westwards towards Dog River and return

Join us for a lodge dinner and trip orientation Friday night with overnight camping on our beach (lodge, dome, prospector tent accommodations may be available). Following a lodge breakfast Saturday morning we’ll pack up and head out for four days/3 nights wilderness paddling/camping on Lake Superior.

 Prerequisites

  • Intermediate or better skills paddler (sea kayak)
  • Able to paddle 25 km in a day with relative comfort
  • Good wilderness camping/kayaking experience

 Conditions

Paddling conditions will vary between calm and very challenging. In August surface water temperatures often warm to the mid to high 60s with warm water in bays and inlets. Air temperatures average mid to high 60s although overnights are often much cooler.
